Mobian Mayhem Sonic (Speed Perfected)

The complete playtest kit — movement, finishers, and the easiest confirms in the game.

Sonic

Sonic is the face of Mobian Mayhem and the kit you should learn first. The awakening name is Speed Perfected. In showcases he is the blue blur doing Freestyle Flurry cutscenes while the map tries to look like a proper Sonic stage. On this wiki he is S tier for public 16-player servers — see the tier list and character rankings. Routes live on Sonic combos. This page is who he is in the playtest, not a frame doc.

Why he feels like Sonic

Playtesters called out the run cycle, the spin dash / spin ball, and the fact he is not “movie electricity hedgehog.” Rails and boost clash added later made the identity louder. You hold run, you clash, you jump on a rail, you slam. That loop is the kit even before specials.

Finishers are the other half of the pitch. Freestyle Flurry has one. Sonic Flare got one in a patch. Blue Blur is the extender people confuse with Barrage. Light Speed Barrage’s hold-space variant is the move you did not know you had. If a clip looks “wrong,” it is usually that hold.

Tools, in player language

  • Freestyle Flurry — starter / ender with a finisher. Greedy in group fights.
  • Sonic Flare — confirm piece. Ends with a shove to your right. Side dash or drop.
  • Blue Blur — extender. Escape is possible after it.
  • Light Speed Barrage — tap vs hold.
  • Spin ball (R) — mobility and slam, including jump-R.
  • Speed Perfected — Grand Slam (close), Cyclone Rush Down, later radius cyclone follow-up.
  • Anti-team — added so Sonic is not helpless against stacks.
  • Jump awakening — alternate presentation, rare voice line.

Universal buttons are still controls. He does not skip the four-M1 wall recipe on wall combos.

How he plays a stock

Win boost or take a wall. Spend evade as the defender, not as the attacker. Three M1s, slam, Flare, right dash, resume. Kill with Flurry when the stock is actually over. Super only in range. If a Shadow is waiting with a timed tool, stop dashing on wakeup.

He is worse when you treat him like an anime teleport character. He is a runner who happens to have cutscenes. If you stand still in a plaza, Shadow’s time stop is a free essay about your mistakes.

Who should main him

New players, mobile players, anyone who likes map tech, anyone who read getting started and wants the kit that matches the trailer. Swap to Shadow when duos annoy you more than execution does.

Skins (ties, recolors) do not change the kit. You are still Speed Perfected. A black-tie screenshot from a mini-update is not a new fighter and does not need a new tier list row.

Matchup habits versus Shadow

Shadow wants you to dash on wakeup into a timed tool. Do not. Block the first grab attempt, take the wall, and force him to play Sonic’s game — rails, clash, Flare confirm. If time stop already landed, you are playing the next stock; do not waste awakening during freeze unless you are already in Grand Slam range. The Shadow page is the other half of this lecture.

Third parties love Sonic cutscenes. If two people are watching your Flurry finisher, you won a clip and lost the server. Anti-team exists; use it, then dash to a wall instead of emoting. Sixteen-player rules are in getting started for a reason.

What Sonic is not

He is not Knuckles. He is not Metal. He is not a Super form you unlock with a code. Jump-awakening sparkle is not a third character. When the rework lands, this page will note whether Speed Perfected still exists as a name. Until then, lab the Flare dash and touch grass — or a wall, preferably.
