What developers actually said, versus Discord wishlist noise.
The playtest roster is two kits. The wishlist is fifty. This page only lists what We are the Mobians have said in public Q&As and what later playtest chatter repeated without getting contradicted. For playable kits, stay on Sonic and Shadow. For the current tier list, nothing here is ranked.
Confirmed direction
Canon characters only. If an Archie design is also canon, it can be discussed. If it is not canon, it is not on the board. That sentence killed a lot of OC and comic-only hopes in one Q&A.
Sonic and Shadow stay free on the full drop. They are the base roster, not a shop bundle. Codes will not be the thing that unlocks them; they are already in the playtest.
Knuckles is the early-access character on that drop. Not playable now. Not a secret button. When people ask “when is the full game,” the honest answer is “after the rework countdown, and Knuckles is the paid-adjacent slot at that moment.”
Metal Sonic will be a character. Which Metal — classic, Neo, Mecha — was not locked in the same Q&A. Do not buy a fake leak that says “copy kit confirmed.” Copy gimmicks are fan hopes from other fighters.
Requested, not confirmed
Tails (flight, arm cannon, aerial grab) is the most common request. Silver (“Psychic traveler”) shows up in comment sections whenever a patch looks like a new slot. Amy, Rouge, Infinite, Kitsunami — all fan mail. Treat them as zero until a developer says the name on camera or in Discord announcements.
Map requests (Green Hill, Angel Island, Death Egg, Marble Zone) were asked in the same Q&A. The answer on map switching was not sure yet. Do not write a stage tier list.
Anti-team was requested and then actually shipped in playtest patches, in a short cinematic style compared to other battlegrounds games. That is the model: asked, then built, then showcased. Wishlist pages that skip that loop are fan fiction.
How to read leaks
If a thumbnail says “NEW CHARACTER TOMORROW” during Rework Countdown, it is probably a Sonic rework clip. Check updates and playtest history. If a script GUI includes Knuckles as a checkbox, it is lying.
Early-access means you should expect a Robux or gamepass gate for Knuckles at full launch. It does not mean he is secretly in the playtest files for you to execute. It does not mean Sonic becomes paid.
What to play while you wait
The engine will carry. Wall combos, boost clash, rails, and the four-M1 chain are not Knuckles-specific. Lab getting started and one kit. When a third name is selectable, this page becomes a stub and a new roster page goes up. Until then, the roadmap is short on purpose: two free hedgehogs, one echidna on early access, one Metal later, canon only.

How this interacts with codes, scripts, and the countdown
There is no promo string that unlocks Knuckles. The codes hub is empty, and even a future like-goal code should be cosmetics, not a roster skip. Executor GUIs that include a “Knuckles on” toggle are lying; read scripts if you were tempted.
The rework countdown is the actual gate. Until the overhaul, you have two kits and a wall. Lab getting started and controls so the third kit does not arrive while you still drop four M1s. When a name becomes selectable, we add a roster page the same day — not a week of fake screenshots.
