Boost Clash and Rails in Mobian Mayhem

The V0.5 movement layer: hold run to boost, clash head-on, then jump onto rails instead of running past them.

Boost Clash and Rails

Later playtest patches added a movement layer the original Roblox description never listed. Boost, boost clash, and rail grinding are why chases last longer and why Sonic still sits S tier in public lobbies. This page is the how-to. Patch context lives on the V0.5 notes. Button names still come from controls.

If you only lab M1s, you will look fast in a plaza and lose the moment someone holds W for five seconds.

How to boost

Boost is not a cooldown button. You hold run. Creators clock it at about five seconds of continuous sprint before the speed state actually starts. Walking, blocking (F), or tapping dash (Q) resets the build-up.

On PC that means commit to a straight line. On console, hold the stick forward and do not flick. On mobile, auto-run helps if you have it; otherwise your thumb will break the timer every time you adjust camera.

Boost is a chase tool and a clash tool. It is a terrible wakeup tool. If you spawn-boost into a wall combo, you donated a stock.

How to boost clash

Clash needs two boosters and a head-on collision. Side clips do nothing fancy. Chasing someone from behind is just a faster run. Turn into them. The V0.5 showcase treats the clash as the movie beat of the patch — both players have to opt in by boosting first.

After a clash, you are not in a cutscene forever. Resume M1s. Sonic converts better because the Sonic combo confirm already wants a right-side dash after Flare. Shadow should look for a timed tool, not a panic Ultimate Being — see the Shadow guide.

If nobody else is boosting, you cannot clash. That is not a bug. Stop running circles hoping the animation will invent a second player.

How to rail grind

Rails are on the current city map. Jump onto the rail. Walking beside it does nothing. The official control card never mentioned this, which is why comment sections filled with “I cannot grind.”

Use rails to:

  • Break a chase that is about to become a clash you will lose
  • Re-enter after a missed Grand Slam
  • Skip an open plaza that has no walls

Do not treat a rail as a wall combo surface. Rails are for grinding. Walls are for four M1s plus a front dash. Mixing those up is the most common V0.5 misread.

Hop off before you overshoot a pack. Sixteen-player servers punish scenic tours.

Kit notes

Sonic wants this page more than anyone. Spin ball (R) plus boost plus rails is the identity. If you refuse to hold run, you are playing a worse version of the kit described on the Sonic page.

Shadow can boost, but time stop and anti-team still win messy stacks. Do not spend five seconds running in a straight line at a Sonic who is already boosting the other way unless you want the clash on purpose.

Upcoming kits will inherit the same engine. Knuckles will not get a private movement tutorial. Lab this now so the rework does not wipe the only habit that survives a rename.

Practice loop

  1. Empty pocket of the map. Hold run until boost actually starts. Do it ten times without dashing.
  2. Find a rail. Jump on, ride, jump off. No specials.
  3. Queue. Boost only when you see another trail. Clash or refuse.
  4. Go back to getting started if you still drop four M1s.

The embed below is a V0.5 feature pass, not a frame bible. If a later countdown patch changes the five-second timer, we will date it on updates. Until then, hold run, hit them head-on, and jump on the metal.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

How long do I hold run to boost?

About five seconds of continuous sprint. Dashing or blocking resets the build-up.

Why did my clash not trigger?

You need two people already boosting, colliding head-on. Behind or side clips are just a faster run.

How do I grind a rail?

Jump onto it. Walking next to the rail does not start a grind.

Is a rail a wall combo surface?

No. Use buildings and fat pillars for wall combos. Rails are movement.
